Lou Miller was born in Tenino, Washington in 1918. In 1939, he signed with the St Louis Browns' organization and was assigned to the Paragould Browns of the Northeast Arkansas League. The third baseman batted .273 in 121 games. The following year with Paragould he batted .287.
Second Lieutenant Miller served with the 63rd Bomb Squadron, 43rd Bomb Group. On the last day of the Battle of the Bismark Sea - March 3 - he was co-pilot of the B-17 "Double Trouble." The plane was badly shot up and was seen breaking up approximately 300 feet above water. He was later declared dead by the Adjutant General's Office. Lou Miller was married to PFC Florence Miller of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve. He is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery at Fort Bonifacio in the Philippines and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
